Horticulture is a branch of agriculture that deals with the art, science, technology, and business of plant cultivation. Although horticulture is a division of agriculture which deals with plant gardening, it is actually different from agriculture. Further, horticulture strictly involves plant cultivation while agriculture deals with cultivation of crops as well as animal farming. Also, horticulture is usually done on smaller, enclosed plots while agriculture is done on extensive pieces of land on large scale. In India, horticulture is promoted by the National Horticulture Board (NHB). In this article, we look at the subsidy for horticulture in India

Banana

 
Banana is one of the major and economically important fruit crop of India. Banana occupy 20% area among the total area under crop in India. Most of Banana is grown by planting suckers. The technology development in agriculture is very fast, it results in developing Tissue Culture Technique.

Papaya Farming

Papaya is a popular fruit famous for its high nutritive and medicinal values. It comes early in bearing than any other fruit crop, produces fruits in less than a year and the production of fruits is quite high per unit area. Papaya is cultivated more or less on a commercial scale in the foothills and plain valleys of all states of the north eastern region. As per statistics available 3,670 hectares yield 47,280 tonnes of papaya annually. It is the fourth important crop of this region. Among the hill states, Mizoram has the largest area under this crop, followed by Tripura and Manipur, While in production Manipur contributes the maximum, followed by Tripura and Mizoram. Papaya is a native crop of Mexico, and was introduced in India in the 16th century. Now it has become popular all over India and is the fifth most commercially important fruit of the country.
